↑ Return to The Student Experience

Student Clubs

There are a number of opportunities for students to learn new skills, gain leadership experience and socialize with other Northwood students.

Student Council

Teacher Leaders:  Danielle Melin and Jessie Dye

Student Council will consist of 2 representatives from each fourth and fifth grade class. These students will act as a voice for their peers while helping build a strong community.  They will be involved in decision making and projects at Northwood and in the local community. These students will also be in charge of sharing information around the school and getting the younger grades involved.  Teachers Danielle Melin and Jessie Dye will serve as Advisors to the Student Council.

Teacher Leaders:  Millsap and Donovan

Calling all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders!  Sign up for BOKS and join us for 30 minutes of heart pumping exercises, activities, games and nutrition insights Monday and Wednesday mornings before school for 12 weeks.  You’ll discover that your brain works better after exercising with us!

BOKS, under the supervision of Mrs. Millsap and Ms. Donovan, meets every Monday and Wednesday morning from 8:35-9:05 at the Northwood Gymnasium.  The program will also require additional parent volunteers in order to operate. This is a non-competitive FREE program with the goal of getting each student to exercise continuously for 30 minutes.  Research has shown that cardiovascular exercise, particularly in the morning, helps our brains to focus better and absorb and retain information.

Student Green Team

Teacher Leader:  Ashley Tyler

Green Team is a group of students who will lead the school in green initiatives like recycling, planting, and reducing our footprint.  Each classroom will be participating in green team initiatives within their own classroom (such as recycling) and there will be a school-wide initiative that will include third, fourth, and fifth grade students.

Meeting times will be determined at a later date once other schedules are put into place. This will either take place before or after school.  There will also be other meetings which parents and interested community members may attend.  Teacher Ashley Tyler will serve as the Advisor to the group.
